Can you be Facebooked? We could trade info there, or via e-mail...since YT is so piecemeal.
I'm a font of trivia on Mae, the Marxes, Fields, and Laurel and Hardy.
Plus, I'm in the arts and a researcher. If it's out there, I find it. ha
I'm writing a book on my town's theater history from 1818.

Love the Mae West! This is my favorite. Her movies were the best the late movie had to offer in my day!

This song is so awesome. Blending traditional Chinese (is that right?) with the blues. Love it.

This is still one of my favorite of her "intros" and songs.
It's probably pseudo-Oriental at best...but it's true, the blend of that and blues is too cool. And about as camp as KOA.
West contacted Gene Austin to write a "sexy Oriental blues number"...adding it was needed by the next day. He sat down and penned this...before long, he was not only writing all "Annie's" songs, but ended up with an on-screen role.
He's also in "Belle of the Nineties" and "My Little Chickadee."

Great information - thanks. I love Belle of the Nineties, and in a few months am teaching a class at a UC on vamps and vixens of the 30s - a whole day just on West, included. Would love to know more of what you know.
