Highlights from a lecture on Financial Deepening: From theory to quantitative estimation for Mexico, 1989-2006, by Victor Zhorin (Computation Institute, University of Chicago). An examination of the importance of Mexico's development bank, BANSEFI, and micro financial systems in this developing country, this research looks at both micro and macro level analyses in order to better understand BANSEFI's role in the larger story of Mexican economic development. Zhorin looks specifically at the economic models used in these analyses.

The lecture was hosted by Enterprise Initiative at the University of Chicago on October 27th, 2009. It was part of a lunch series focusing on current research in the area of development economics. The lecture series was funded by the John Templeton Foundation. The findings and conclusions contained in the report are those of the author(s) and do not necessarily represent the views of the funders.
