watch me convert a vivaro van from its raw state into a pop top campervan, I have never done this, so this is my first go.I intend to do all the work myself. This is the first of 3 vidio clips for this project, I was going to use a vw van but I thought the size of the bed was a bit small, The bed in this vivaro is just over 4 foot 2inch wide by 6 foot 6 inch long.[sorry for my shacky vidio but you will get the jest].

  • Hi Mate the strucural integrity of the van has not been weakend at all, all the cante rail which runs around the roof, and the rear and front structual X members have not been cut, the only cross sections which were cut are just the roof pannel supports which are desinged to give the roof skin a bit of stiffnes, ontop of that a fully seam welded angle section was fitted around the roof apeture, I strongly suspect that the roof now is stronger that it was before the work,.Thanks for ya coments..

  • Looks amazing!

How did you fix the panels to the wall once you had carpeted them?

  • @reef106

Hi the panels were fitted to the walls with a few very small pop rivets, very strong but you can,t see them.

  • Yeh, very good mate. Like it. Have a look on my channel @ mine. cheers

  • @davsam88 cool! thanks for the reply

  • what about structural integrity after cutting off the cross members????

  • you got talent ,as you progress youll find shortcuts?i took a metal action sofa bed to bits +boxed it in ,cost me£21 all in?if anyone gonna do camper/motorhome ,always get a long wheelbase, high roof, side windowed ,usually ex minibus,be careful using "real wood"cupboard doors etc,as temperatures go from 1 extreme to other.+warp.chipboard doors stay put?laminate flooring has to "move"or else it will buckle in middle?,RECYCLE+POUNDSHOPS save a fortune lol ,,,jim

  • Good work Dave. I like the info on the roof. I fitted a Midi Heki in mine but your was something else! More info on mine on my channel.

  • Looking good - you're a lot braver than me, I'd be cr*pping myself if I had to cut my roof out for a conversion! LOL!

Looks really good though. Excellent paint job! and I love the framework for the seat/bed - genius!
