Update June 2011: Many of you have asked about my dog Percy's leg splints in the video. To make a long story short, I found her in 2008 after she'd been hit by a car and she had to undergo mulitple surgeries and wear splints over the course of a year. She will wear a splint on one leg for the rest of her life, but she's used to it and a very happy dog. See my other videos for more updates on Percy. Also, I wound up keeping three of the five kittens and they're all grown up and love Percy! I found good homes for the other two kittens.

Original Description:
It's a zoo in my house right now. I trapped (humanely, of course) five feral kittens recently (once they were completely weaned from mom cat) and am keeping them in a spare room until they're old enough to get fixed and adopted. In the meantime, I'm keeping them in a crate for a couple of hours a day nearby if I'm on my computer, so they'll get used to my dogs and various household noises (which is why you see them in a crate in my entryway in the video). The rest of the time they romp around in a guest bedroom and mom cat visits them there. Once they get a little older, I'll let them start exploring the rest of the house.

Their mom is a feral that I trapped and had spayed and returned outside after she had this litter (with the help of the San Antonio Feral Cat Coalition). I was letting her in my front door to visit the kittens, but she has since figured out how to get into the house through the dog door to check on her kittens!

Also, as you can see, my rescue dog, Percy, is very curious about the kittens. Fred, my ancient lab, is trying hard to ignore it all.

  • Well... she's not that feral.. I mean you could have taken her to the vet to get her spayed..

  • @andreajolie I DID have her spayed after she had this litter, which I mention in the description above. Although the mom kitty was relatively calm in the video, she would not allow people to touch her and was in no way accustomed to people, which is why I thought she was feral. She came to trust me just a tiny bit because I fed her and her kittens for two months before I shot the video. I wish people would read the description before commenting.

  • @leftcoastmerc Oh my gosh, please read the uploader notes before making such comments! In the notes, I explain that I was keeping them in a crate for a short period of time per day for their protection until they got used to the dogs and all the household noises. The kittens had been born outside to a stray cat in my yard, so they weren't used to being inside and they certainly weren't used to being around dogs.

  • thanks for caring, you have a good heart!!

  • You made such a responsible and loving decision by taking in these cats and even spaying their mother. Reading your story and watching this video makes me have to thank you for the kindness and love you showed them. Your name is itsaccrualworld, but it's not such a cruel world when there are people like you around.
