Terhi Valmet 5hp ´73 outboard running and driving

Just a little drive with my Valmet Terhi 5hp. Working pretty good now. It has one cylinder only and it's air cooled, but the exhaust pipe is watercooled (you can see water coming out from there at the beginning of the video). I am not so sure about the year, but it's something between 1970 and 1975. My boat is still the Suomi 410 (4,1m long). Hope you enjoy and please comment!

5 heppasella Terhillä pientä ajelua Saimaalla. Vuosimallista en ole varma mutta se on 70-luvun alkupuoliskon vehkeitä. Ja veneenähän useimmissa videoissani toimii tuo Suomi 410. Tämähän on siis ilmajäähdytteinen kone, mutta rikiputkea jäähdytetään vedellä ja aika tuossa videon alussa yritin vähän sitä veden kiertoakin kuvailla. Sylintereitähän tässä keksinnössä on vain yksi.

I forgot to mention that I tried contacting a certain Hannu Urkonen in Finland, he's supposed to have been working for terhi during that period (dunno about afterwards) But the poor man didn't speak either Swedish nor English, only Finnish. "No svenska, sorry" :( But I've sent a PM to user Terhipro. And we will see what unfolds.

So to all others: If you're having troubles with a terhimotor, dont'call Hannu Urkonen unless you speak Finnish. :)

Hello there.

I have an enginge like that one probably from somewhere in the late 1970's. Since I'm having some problems to get it to run I would appreciate if you could tell me what to look for and if its possible to get a hold of a manual :) much appreciated!

Yes well that's a little more complicated case if you have one of these. To make it work properly you have to make some changes to the ingition system. Thats because originally these engines had an ingition system that sucked. It has only one coil, so when it gets warm it kinda stops working when you shut the engine off. So it won't start again. So you have to put a new, another coil on it, outside od the magneto.

Well one another thing came in my mind, there is a condensator inside the magneto, that may not work either. So I recommend you to check that first. Oh, and about the manual, I've never had one, but you can ask from user caller Terhipro. He has some manuals.

HI! I've recently aquired an out board which i think is similar to the one in the video, i've got no info on it and the cover is missing , I know nothing about it as in age etc. Can't find anything on the net about it either, (well not in english any way !)Don't know if any of you guy's woluld be able to pass on any info ? Do you maybe know if Hannu could help me to get a manual? I'm prepared to pay for it to be sent to sweden. I found a person here in sweden wich can supply parts for it. Maybe you could forward adress info and get some account to wich I can transfer money to as compensation?

I've got some suggestions of possible error causes, so maybe if I got a hold of a servicemanual I could find the problem.
