Former Gatundu North mp Patrick Muiruri admitted before a Nairobi court that he lost 2.1 million shillings in a fake currency printing syndicate just before the 2007 general elections. Muiruri, who was testifying in the Gatundu North election petition told justice Fred Ochieng' that he fell victim to fraudsters who had promised to print for him 30 million shillings. He told the court that the fraudsters asked him to pay 2.1 million shillings as down payment to facilitate the purchase of chemicals and equipment to be used in the printing of the fake money. The mp later reported the matter to the police that subsequently led to three people being charged in the Kibera court with fraud in a case that is still ongoing.
