what is the game at 1:51?

Few people could get past this game's questionable box art. A shame, really, because this game is one of my favorites.

@osurpless Yeah, this is a great game. I recently picked it up at a flea market and have dug into it a bit. A friend of mine had it when I was younger, and I remember watching him play. He insisted that I didn't have a turn because he was really far into the game and 'it's really really hard'. Looking back now, I can see he was right. Just the first few levels will test your schmup abilities to the max.
As for the commercial, I can't find it either. Hopefully someone will find and upload it.

I agree on most games our considered bad only if they can't meet the hype, some may not agree, but this is the case for duke nukem forever. It considered bad mostly due to the fact the fans wanted duke to have every weapon, and not fallow the only two weapon at a time rule. Maybe a bit strong on the sexual content, but nothing they never warned us about. I may have only played the demo, but the game felt /looks fun to play, and that's all it really comes down to.

@danludemann Wow, advertising by association really doesn't work with video games. No wonder your friend was confused! Any idea where I can see this commercial?
As for the game itself, it looks like a great genre hybrid. It's on my list now!

It's not true that Broderbund didn't advertize this game. They did a flood of TV commercials for at least a month in the SF Bay Area at the time. In fact, the mis-directing commercials lead kids to believe that it was a sequel to Legend of Zelda. A kid in my school-bus home came to the same conclusion as me that it was a Zelda sequel. The commecials showed Zelda 1, then Link (Zelda 2), and then Guardian Legend... all with voice-over suggesting the next epic quest of video games was this game.

I loved this gamy at kid. I hope they make 3DS version of this with ability to save & with better graphics (maybe little 3D depth between spaceship and background) and i'm totally buying it. :)

What is the Japanese PS2 game you showed at 1:50 between Vagrant Story and Odin Sphere?
The new generation of gamers has to learn to appreciate old games, granted, but the older generations have to learn to appreciate new games as well. Final Fantasy XIII was weak, granted, but bashing it because it looks good is just as immature as not liking classics. Some new games BESIDES Nintendo titles are actually wonderful games that WILL become the classics of tomorrow. Tales of Vesperia, Monster Hunter, Final Fantasy XIII, Metal Gear Solid 4, Dragon Age: Origins... the list goes on.

@RebornAleph I think maybe you're commenting on the wrong video (or wrong channel, don't know) but it does garner a reply.
So, my point wasn't to bash FFXIII but hugely disagreeing the fact that polygon count as de facto pivot point for a game. (i.e. Better Graphics == Better Games). My mantra is "Let games speak for themselves." As for FFXIII, don't know what to say cause I don't have it. I may like it. I may hate it. Who knows? But no stranger to nextgen: Muramasa, Persona, NMH, TC, etc.

@optitube I was more directing my comment toward your calling out the huge gap between a good game and a game with good graphics (and by all means, I completely agree).
You haven't played Final Fantasy XIII, yet you seemingly passed judgment on it, by putting it in the same bag as a games that rely entirely on good graphics. You may be exactly right with that one, it DOES rely heavily on graphics, but it's still only one game, and it's still blind judgment. Thank you for your reply. =)

@RebornAleph I think ur confusing expectation with judgment. Square's recent FF line were perfect examples of visual gluttony and it looked like XiII was to be no different. At the time, that's what gamers expected from Square and I wanted to invoke that sentiment (i.e Graphics == amazing, everything else == ????) as a way to comment on the trend of graphical obsession and not on assessing one game in particular.
