The rotation curve of a system can tell us quite a bit about how the mass is distributed. For a solar system, most of the mass is concentrated at the center.
Venus and the rest of the planets all orbit in the same direction, however Venus's spin (on its axis) is "backwards" compared to its orbit. This is why we say it has "retrograde rotation".
