Calumet farm ruled horse racing from the 1940s to the 1960s. Inherited by Warren Wright in 1931 claumet turned from a harness racing stable into an establishment horse racing will never see the likes of again. Having such racing greats as Citation,Whirlaway and many more. When Wright died in 1950 his widow took over, who later married Admiral Gene Markey. Though Calument did not have the same amount of success later on,it still produced 1970's champs Mims,Davona Dale, and Alydar. Who ran 2nd in all the 1978 triple crown races.Markey died in 1982. Then the farm was turned over to J.T Lundy,Lundy had married Markey's grand-daughter. Lundy forced calumet depper and depper into debt, untill in 1991 filed for bankruptcy, $127 million owed. Then farm was the sold off to Henryk de Kwiatkowski. (did i spell that right lol) He restored calumet, though it will never really be the same. Today Henryk's children continue to run this wonderful farm. Enjoy! :D

  • I am considering approaching the History channel to make a full length in depth documentary on Calumet Farm from its inception to its current existence as a training boarding and breeding facility. Any ideas on this?

  • @stephandek I think that's a fabulous idea! It's such an interesting story!

  • This farm is so nice that I had my filly there in training, a couple of years ago, and I went there in the morning to see her go through her exercises. They are professional, and the care, the history around me, you can't help the feeling of exhilaration that is in the Kentucky air... when you own Thoroughbreds... It's hard to explain...

  • I do understand in a way, when i was there it just had this sort of feeling-it was truly magical. :)

  • this is a wonderful video in honor to the legacy of Calumet. My family owned it and it's nice to see something honor the memory without all the ugliness that get repeated over and over and over. Thank you!

  • You're most very welcome. It's wonderful that your family was able to be a part of it.

  • Très interessant pour ceux qui s'interessent à Calumet et qui sont à l'autre bout de la terre comme moi , merci ...... Baisers pour Alydar

  • My horse came from Calumet lineage - every horse on here is on his papers - he was truly a special horse - like they all were. The biggest heart and gave his all everytime I asked. Something special about the horses of Calumet. Thanks so much for posting this Tribute.
