Here's a song I composed today Feb 17, 2008 for February Album Writing Month (http://www.fawm.org/).

This song was inspired with some campaign coverage for Barack Obama... I read the following in an online article:
"Then there is the unfortunate reality that African-Americans and Latinos are socialized in this country to hate each other. We are taught this in the public school system, where neither of us are taught our true history. We are made into street soldiers to fight each other in our ever-increasing incarceration in prisons. We are taught to blame each other by politicians for the lack of jobs, lower wages and increasing cost of living. Truth is that some of us are so messed up that we find it easier to fight each other rather than to come together and fight the true source of our problems."

So the thought "Street Soldier" spawned the song, asking for the youth to break out of the circle of violence and division, embrace education and unity, and turn away all who wish to stereotype this youth.

It's just a song concept demo though...

  • A good video. Thanks. That latinos and blacks are at odds with another is itself odd. Old Hollywood movies created "faces" to each group and stereotyped them. At my advanced age, I have to work at not accepting the faces I was presented for any race.
