Black people live in the same society as white, we grow up watching the same tv and films. Yet dark/black is valued opposite to white. It's not surprising black people will have self-image and identity issues.
In the 80s so many black men wanted a blonde white woman. And a lot of white women wanted black men.
Seems like 90% black women wear weaves and perms. How much spending power would that reveal if you had a "No weave or perm, spend the money somewhere else month"?

According to one study, gay men who identify as "Only Tops" tend to prefer lighter-skinned men while gay men who identify as "Only Bottoms" tend to prefer darker-skinned men.

In his foreword to Peter Frost's 2005 Fair Women, Dark Men, University of Washington sociologist Pierre L. van den Berghe writes: "Although virtually all cultures express a marked preference for fair female skin, even those with little or no exposure to European imperialism, and even those whose members are heavily pigmented, many are indifferent to male pigmentation or even prefer men to be darker."
