  • Nice video... That was a great explanation of what is meant by a flat response. It was so good that I had to pull out my monitor's box and then look up the owners manual to try to remember what I bought. LOL. I think I'm okay. I have first generation KRK Rokit 5s, 53Hz to 20 khz plus/minus 2.0 dB. I have carpeted floors so I use mixing stands when I'm mixing and also my headphones Sony MDR-7506s. Nice video all the same, but my assumption is that you do not mix with your speakers in the cabinet.

  • @mnash3 Yes, that is bad acoustically. Speakers should be isolated from the desk and a foot or two (at least) from walls. Your listening position should be an equilateral triangle with the two speakers, usually about 60 inches back. I'm going to update this video soon!

  • This is not exactly setup correctly. You need the setup so that the speakers are in the middle of the wall not to far left or not to far to the right tucked in the corner. Also need to be using the Length of the room and not the width as you wont be able to hear the soundwaves from the bass very well or you will get a false bass amplification.

  • @Liquadia1 Agreed. Changed it since this video was made.

  • how about studio monitors that are headphones (for mixing)? is that enough or wld i still need the speakers? and do you know if dre beats headphones are studio monitors? lol thanks in advance!

  • @glydeclean Usually, it's not the best idea. The stereo separation is unnatural for starters. But it's good to check the mix on headphones once and a while too, just to see how people who listen that way would hear your mix.

  • I bought mine from ebay they have really good deals.

    bit.ly/ KRKspeakers

  • bravoo! o yeah

  • have been looking for a better way to record guitar. I have an Emu 0404 sound card. So everything sounds awesome as hell, but as soon as I hear it through a normal pc sound card or how it would normally sound it sounds like! Drives me nuts. I just want a real way to know what im recording is what it is going to sound like.

  • @Liquadia1 correct. in addition, you should also move them away from the wall in the back and have them coupled ( rubber or foam with stand).. and if your room is smaller than half of one wavelength of your lowest freq on the speakers (50hz [than your still getting comb-filtering which is phase related and reinforces and cancels certain freqs..

  • very good explanation, very clear and pleasant to listen to instruction!

  • your videos have been very helpful i hope to see more about protools soon thanks

  • @glydeclean If you are after studio monitor headphones, look at something like the Audio-Technica ATH m50, or the Beyer DT770 They cost less than Beats by Dre, and are WAY better. And they are intended for studio use.

  • In choosing Monitor Speakers, I would add, sound separation. In a mix some speakers will blend multiple similar frequencies making it difficult to make adjustments. Listening to the speakers before you buy to determine which ones offer the best separation is a requirement for being able to get a good quality mixdown at home, separation is more important. In my search Yamaha HS80 and Dynaudio BM5A MKII stood out for separation. Bigger woofs perform better than the smaller version, HS50 v. HS80.
