Another example of the flat, level backhand in racquetball. It's a similar motion to throwing a frisbee.

  • @chisaoboy Great question Chisaoboy. If it's a bit difficult to achieve the backhand grip which is, in fact, slightly clockwise, then yes you can actually use your non-hitting hand to do so. Try it for a few weeks or so, until you get the hang of it, and then move on to switching grips with just your racquet hand. It takes too long in a rally to do otherwise.

I used to hold my racquet while watching television, switching grips back and forth with just one hand to practice. You can do it too.

  • Hey Tim... love your videos. Question: On your website you say that before hitting backhand, you should turn your racquet slightly clockwise but not move your hand. Do you mean that you literally use your non-racquet hand to twist the racquet right before the shot??? Thanks so much for your help. I think you're in AZ, right? I'm in CA... would love to take lessons from you!

  • Thanks. I'll get some more video up. I'm really bad at taking balls out of the air, it's one thing I'm practicing so I agree my contract point isn't the best.

I'm taking lessons from Tom Travers, U know of him? He was US Team Coach. It's something I wish I did a while ago.

I'd like to see your swing slowed down to 6% speed. I do it in final cut pro.

  • Your backhand looks really good. Flat and level. Do you have another video of it, though?

As an instructor, one of the things I teach is a flat-level swing, very similar to yours, but with the contact point AWAY from the body, like in my "backhand flat and level" 1 and 2 videos.

It seems like your contact point, on that shot anyway, is a little too close to your body. It could be just that you were so close to the wall.

    Great swing and video. 8-)
