Having been an Ultravox fan for 30 years, I really wanted to see this entire BBC documentary. It's called "Synth Britannia" - and thank God for YouTube! - It's IN HERE! - in 9 parts.
-
does billy or chris still use the mini moog?
-
It's funny to hear him say here how the Minimoog is getting out of fashion, while now all people want is a Minimoog.
-
I actually thought it was something else... I recall a schools program about music where a guy and woman were talking with different people... the guy started hammering out hiky tonk piano on a primitive sampler on the BBC Model B IIRC
The fairlight, PPG and other things were mentioned a lot... Ultravox were defo in it... it was circa 84-86..

Hess look sympatric and have a great voice. One of the synthesizer kings in the world. Cool look !

Whoops, can't post URL's. What a pile of shite.

If you think that is hard, have a listen to Rab C Nesbitt shows here on youtube. ;D
I have that video, this is a short clip of a TV Documentary called "Design Matters (Making of the Lament video)" that was aired in 1985. After the Moog session he moves on to a PPG wave synt and demos some sounds from Lament song. Very sweet.

mmm.. it may have been re-cycled/culled for that, but i am pretty sure this was part of a BBC O.R.S. Special on Synthesizer Music that featured Kraftwerk, Peter Baumann, JM Jarre etc. and a makeshift "chart" that mostly comprised of stuff they had video clips for!
As for the full Documentary, i now must INSIST on seeing it before i die :)

Sadly this clip is all i have.. It was a BBC-TV special on synthesizers as part of (i think) the OXFORD ROAD SHOW.. Other clips that show came from PETER BAUMANN (strangers in the night), JEAN MICHEL JARRE (mag fields 2), KRAFTWERK (T.E.E. - english dub) under the guise of s "chart"..
