If you know how to properly maintain a chain driven goped, a chain can last 1000's of miles. This is entirely your fault, not the ped.

Sounds like something is very wrong, they should last longer. Is it possible that you have a China scoot?
Anyway, replace sprockets and chain, (You HAVE to replace both sprockets and chain otherwise things will wear out fast.) make sure it lines up nice and DO NOT tension the chain too much. There should be a little slack but obviously not too much. I don't know how much slack it shall be on your ped but just make sure it doesn't feel stiff but not all sloppy at the same time.
Lube the chain.
