August 2009 - During the land eviction of an MST occupation of the Southall plantation in São Gabriel, RS, the Landless Worker's Movement (MST) member Elton Brum da Silva was shot and killed by the Brazilian National Guard. The movement continues in memory of Elton, struggling for social justice, against the criminalization of the social movements in the state.
