PLEASE READ BEFORE COMMENTING!
A video presentation by Weinlein and Dwyer that investigates Tim O'Brien's perspective of the Vietnam War through his work, The Things They Carried. Submitted for Mr. Mody's American Experience class at Burnt Hills HS. Please keep in mind that despite some of the content , this video (and all those connected to my account) is intended for use by primarily high school students. This means I will not approve comments with vulgarity or with questionable, derogatory, or inflammatory content.
You are free to comment on whether or not you like/agree with the video and/or the novel it is attempting to summarize. Criticism is fair game in my eyes, as long as it is insightful and in good taste. The old song used in this video was "This is War" by Smile Empty Soul, but WMG blocked it so it had to be changed to "Fade Away" by Seether from through YouTube's AudioSwap. It doesn't have anywhere near the same effect.

If America had not started the war, South Vietnam would have fallen into communism in 1954 and more Vietnamese would have been murdered in cultural revolutions like those launched by Mao in China (20 million deaths) & Khmer Rouge in Cambodia (2 millions)
Total Vietnamese democide by communists: 1,040,000 (1975-87) by HCR.
On April 29, 1975, I watched the last chopter leave, leave people I promised to help, but my government decided was not worth the money. I resigned the next day after 15 years. The war in S.E.A was going on years before we got involved, ask the French.
@omghellapissed thats really funny since it was America that artificially divided vietnam into north and south. so if north started the war and US created south and north for their own geopolitics; then isnt that saying US started the war. also its funny you say south vietnamese were on the US especially when most of viet cong members were from the south. Please read some history. One thing that was obvious from this war is that US really didnt think it through.
@omghellapissed your right vietnam could have been like china and japan but is wasnt because someone delivered unto them unwanted gifts such as nepalm bombs, agent orange and absolute carnage for 30 years. That someone according to you must be north vietnam; oh wait, well I'l be damned that was us the whole time. I dont know who keeps giving you thumbs up cuz you obviously dont know what your talking about and by the way US started the war; they blocked the elections in vietnam which led to war
