http://gurneys.com/blackberry-plants/c/61/ - In this video, Felix from Gurney's shows how to prune Blackberry plants in the Early Spring. This video will help you get your blackberry plant to produce more fruit!
If it is possible I prefer to run my support wire north and south which I feel provides the plants with maximum sunlight during the course of the day. If you can't do this don't sweat it. As long as your plants are getting >8 hrs of sun light and are cared for you should have success. -Felix
For floricane blackberries I suggest pruning your laterals back to 3-4 buds in late winter or before your buds break or start growing.
If your plant does not have a lot of laterals from the previous season and your soil is great then you can leave more. Just keep in mind that each of the buds on the laterals will produce a fruiting shoot. There is a balance between how much you allow your plant to crop and resulting fruit quality. Don't get too greedy ;) - Felix

Question -- is it better to run your support wire and row of blackberries north and south, or east and west?
