if you were a slave (which your arn't) and you would want people using a word towards you how would you feel people going around saying nigger all the time i don't think so i can't even go to a bagel shop without white people acting like they never saw a black person before it's crazy!

Okay, there aren't slaves anymore, and I never said that I wanted everyone to use it, rather, I proposed an ultimatum Everyone gets to use, or no-one gets to use it, I hate racism, and the only way to get rid of it is by either everyone not giving a shit about a fucking WORD or by abolishing said word for everyone.

The N-word... We can change the spelling, try to change the definition, but we can NEVER change the ORIGIN of that word! It's hypocritical to say who can and cannot use it. We can't
"take ownership" of a word and still be offended by it!
To black folks who advocate the use of that word among other black folks, comsider this: We are the ONLY race of people that VOLUNTARILY refer to one another using a racial slur created by another race? THINK ABOUT IT!

well said. I'd like to add a point about its origin though, the latin niger and later french negre/neger had no negative implication in its use to descibe "black" peoples with noir used for the color black, but, the point here is the pejorative use of the word. More broadly, how can the desire of other people to use the word pejoratively be buried or altered? Think about that....

I agree that the pejoraative use of the word cannot be supressed, as it's use is both cultural in influence and generational in duration. The elimination of the widespread use of the word as a cultural "norm" will require tremendous cultural shift as well.

why waste time and energy trying to bury a word when the mentality is still going to be prevailent? we give words power, if i am in fact not moronic , then me saying a word nigga/nigger or otherwise cannot make me moronic. the word cannot rob me of the education i have recieved or the knowledge of the history of the word. burying the word is incredibly useless. the people who did it could have spent that time in their community educating children; it would have been time better used.

Exactly how am i moronic and simple minded? Lol, just because you don't understand someone doesn't make them moronic. I've found that usually the first person to resort to petty name calling is the most "simple-minded" of all involved. By all means though, I'd like to know what exactly makes me moronic?

redmondd15 I understand you better than you understand yourself. You are moronic because you have no sense. I explained in my initial response to you why this is so, which part of it did you not understand? Please don't tell me that you also have a reading comprehension problem as well.
