  • Seems wasteful to use an entire dishwasher cycle just to cook a bit of fish--waste of electricity and water (we're in a drought right now). I was interested in trying this, thus ended up at this video, but won't do it unless dishes & fish can be done at the same time. What's the problem with doing both at once, assuming the fish is sealed well enough to keep the dishwater out? Also, would it not be good to put a bit of butter in, along with fresh lemon juice & whatever seasoning? Thanks.

  • @AvalonMorley I actually do with the dishes, but for purposes of a instructional video, I didn't want to be responsible for people eating dish soap. I do seal mine up real good though. Thanks for your input! I love recycling and saving energy in everything that I do, but I didn't think anyone would be happy about soap with food in this instance. Thank you. It IS so important for us to save everything these days. And yes, I think I say to season it with whatever you like the best.

  • If I didn't have a stove top to cook on, but had only a dishwasher, I might resort to this method. I just finished poaching salmon on top of my stove, and it took about 20 minutes. I had a package of Knorr Hollandaise sauce in the cupboard and added dry dill weed to that when I made it. It was great on both the salmon and the broccoli I served with it. My dishwasher takes about 45 minutes and a lot of energy to cycle, so the stove top is the only way I'd do poached salmon.

  • @pearlyone1 You are correct. Most dishwashers do use a lot of energy. Probably not the most efficient way to cook, however, it does keep the heat out of the kitchen on a hot summer day when one doesn't have air conditioning. Thanks for sharing. Your recipe sounds wonderful.

  • Oh my gosh. I LOVE salmon but only order it in restaurants because I've never had any luck with it at home. It always comes out dry and tough...lol. I can't believe how easy that looked. I'm going to give it a try. Do you know the weight of the piece of salmon you used in the video??

  • @mshockey73 The salmon was about 1 1/4 lbs.

  • @DianaTro Oh that sounds wonderful! I will try that recipe next time I have salmon. Thanks.

  • I don't get a lovely treat like salmon but maybe twice a year so I don't want to burn it or dry it out, you know.

  • @LeSaMilano Yeah, I was getting that idea by the comments left from my friends in the UK. This is the first time I've had a dishwasher since I left Florida. I only run it once every week or so unless I have a lot of people over for dinner. Everything is expensive here too, you know. The government wonders why so many Americans are overweight! They can't afford the good food, many people can only afford the cheap, fattening stuff like a bag of potatoes or a box of macaroni and cheese.

  • @jewsepy Explode? No, the fish never exploded. hahahaha That's funny. I guess it might make the dishes you eat it from smell fishy, but the dishwasher doesn't have an odor after using this technique, because the fish was wrapped securely.
