Centralia, PA - The Abandoned Highway - 10-29-08

This is a part one of three short videos that I shot while in the ghost town of Centralia, PA - The old mining town. This one is of us visiting the abandoned highway 61 that was bypassed by 54 for, well, obvious reasons. There is a fire burning in the coal veins under the town. This is the havoc it wreaked on the road itself.

Wasn't PA 61 returned to its previous alignment as a result of this? PA 54 seems to take a wider swing. Also-any danger of cave-ins or sinkholes forming here?

I was on that same section just 12 days prior to your video. I was actually able to get my Cavalier onto the abandoned highway.

i was there in december 09. its amazing there but now the few residents that stayed were forced to relocate. so sad bout this place.
