Usually you'll be shooting 6" groups or so with your Mosin-Nagant at 100 yards, maybe worse. While there are some upsides to the Mosin's iron sights (discussed), there's some significant downsides too: usually you can't zero them to point of aim (need taller front sight), they lack precision, and they're no good in low light. Enter the best mount I've found for the Mosins so far, the Brass Stacker scout mount. It's 100% US made CNC milled steel from a small private company. It attaches strongly as shown with the cross bolts and installation is usually pretty straightforward. Use blue locktite on those mini nuts and cut off excess length and mill the bolts clean. It saddles the rear sight block and allows use of the iron sights as well. If you want to remove it, you can easily return your beloved Mosin to its stock configuration as well. Use a pistol scope like the excellent and high value Weaver 2.5x8x28mm #849429 pistol scope and watch your groups tighten up. With 22-75 LPS and 10-80 Yugo ammo we got almost 1 MOA groupings (shown) with this mount and scope...incredible. Upsides include this higher precision, no mount shifting (when mounted and used as indicated), moderate cost for such a high quality product ($50 now), light weight, improved low light capabilities, and increased fun levels (it's funner to hit what you're shooting at!). The only notable downside is the higher cheek weld required. Until I find something better (unlikely), TNP will be running these Brass Stacker Mosin-Nagant mounts on several of our Mosins...they rock.////////////////////////////////Nutnfancy Likability Scale: 9 out of 10

  • I know you like the mosin nagant and was wondering if you ever fired the also cheap nagant m1895 revolver. It would be an awesome test to do a run and gun with the mosin with a nagant side arm.

  • INTERESTING to note, if you remove the Mosin Nagant 91/30 rear sight, there is a dovetail under there :) You can put a steel ring and a red dot directly on the barrel :) No fee for a steel mount LOL

  • I'm putting that mount and scope on my M-38!!

  • @TactiKoolStuff

that depends. when (if) you drift the rear sight base off there is only one hole for a pin, you will have to go to a gunsmith. try jmeck scope mounts. they mount over the receiver, so a bent bolt handle is needed

  • @mrmapegothe13th

the mosin will take an elk, of course the weight, style, and charge behind the bullet will make a difference. and of course, shot placement

  • @bones020694 You sure the Mosin will take elk? Im just curious cause im gettin one today and id like to go elk huntin sometime, but everyone told me id need like a goddamn 300 winchester or somethin.

  • @bones020694 Hey bro my Mosin only has one pin for the sight. Its a 1933 hex. You know if the brass stacker will fit?

  • Hey Nutnfancy I bought the Brass Stacker and the Weaver scope you suggested for my Mosin and totally love it! However, it no longer fits very well in my shotgun/rifle case. Can you tell me which case you use to tote this guy around on trips to the range? Any help would be appreciated!

  • In all honesty, from a bench I get a 6in 15 round group at 100 yds, iron sights.

  • @conanswordman use simple green or goo-gone. Ammonia or windex works great for cleaning the barrel out after shooting. the ammonia in windex neutralizes the corrosive salts from surplus ammo. hope this helped

  • @MrVdt12 AIM makes a kit that has a mount and scope for 60 bucks

  • I just got my Mosin that thing was covered with gunk to prevent rust what did you do to clean all of it off and what stuff do I need to use to clean all of it off
