It sure is a nice piece of equipment.

Being in a balloon doesn't give you any advantage, the signal has to travel up a few hundred miles to the ionosphere. A thousand feet up isn't going to make any difference, unless using short range ground wave.

Should have a lanyard or strap on that precious radio, it could fall out of the balloon...

Nice QSO. Bravo! You are patient yet stubborn.
I have the AEA 10m HT. Always carry a wire with an alligator clip to clip to any ground like a fence or any metallic mass to use as a counterpoise, especially on 40m. 73 Tony WW2W

Hello Tony, sure, with a suitable counterpoise you get a better SWR in your whip antenna, usually I use a lenght of: Lambda/4 x 0,72.

It is not home made hand held but a very rare and vintage Mizuho portable transceiver from Japan. Enrico

Si tratta di un Mizuho MX-7S, il QRB era di 450 KM circa. Ultimamente ho rifatto l'antenna incrementando notevolmente i risultati. 73 de Enrico, IW3FZQ
