Heart of the Matter: Maryland's Same-Sex Couples Seek Justice for their Families
Equality Maryland and the ACLU, in partnership with the Megaphone Project, have released this award-winning documentary featuring the personal stories of three of the couples in Maryland's equal marriage rights lawsuit, Deane and Polyak v. Conaway.
On January 20, 2006, Judge M. Brooke Murdock ruled in favor of marriage equality, writing that "Maryland's statutory prohibition against same-sex marriage cannot withstand this constitutional challenge." Oral arguments for the state's appeal of her ruling were heard before the Maryland Court of Appeals, Maryland's highest court, on December 4, 2006.
Biographical information on all of the plaintiffs in the Deane case, the legal documents, and other background materials, including a set of FAQs about Deane and Polyak v. Conaway, are available at http://equalitymaryland.org/
