We hear the sheepies are multiplying and I get the idea of... trimming the herd. Then we are told that there is something the halflings are hiding, and it's most likely our completely useless Steel Smelter that for some reason we should get back.

"Useless? Why should you say it's useless when it gives you new, better gear?"
Well, by the time we come to a point in the game where new equipment is somewhat necessary, we can already start creating the best equipment of all. Spending hundreds of minions on poor equipment now and possibly spending several hundreds of minions on the next set of gear if we're being total arsebrains would be a complete waste when we need a few thousand more minions to create the best of the best weapons and armor later on.

I spent a couple of hours on my first file farming lifeforce just to max out the best helmet, and that was ONLY the helmet. Before that, being as stupid as I am, I had already spent more than 1000 lifeforce on the previous helmets because I wanted a lot of minions and I didn't think the game was so short that the next smelter is right around the corner.
The RPG element in this game is the farming of lifeforce, equivalent to grinding levels, to get better stats by using the smelters, but the game throws another RPG element on top of that: you choose whether you mainly command minions, attack enemies yourself or stay defensive, because sensible people who don't spend their days farming or grinding away their real lives to buff up their stats in a (rather short) game for no apparent reason other than making it slightly easier (and thus even shorter) will only have enough patience to max out either the helmet for more minions, the armor for more health/mana, health regeneration and whatever the last option was or the weapons for maximum damage.

So, the Steel Smelter will become very useless somewhat soon. The small advantage over enemies I could have now does not justify the boring farming of lifeforce. I'll only start farming lifeforce later on to make the walkthrough shorter.

  • Invest your time in something different than selling crack on the corner of the street and writing descriptions. Should I remind you that you still have a Let's Play account? Didn't think about that, did you?

  • More LPs in August.
