  • Please some body give me advice about my son. He is 8 and only has his right ear implant, he was 1 and 4 month old when he got implanted so should I get his left ear impanted. Please give me advice, thanks

  • email me at melonyl@shaw.ca

  • She looks so sad. I feel bad for her.

  • same here, I pray for her health, well-being and safety. Getting a CI should come with individual consent and make decision based on personal choice, not anyone else...

  • She will have ther personal choice to take it off when she is an adult. If children are not implanted within the first few years of life the brain is unable to make sence of sound, so in order to give her her individual choice she needs to get the implant otherwise when she is older is she was deaf and decided she wanted the implant it would not be an option, so the only way to giveher the choice in the future is to implant in childhood.

  • She was very sad here, she was upset because her friend was only getting one cochlear implant instead of two.

  • Time Index 309 "Music sounds very Beautiful and Georgeous!"

  • @TheHoffy59 What makes you such an expert?

CI recipients hear more sound than they did before.

The Cochlea is not destroyed it is augmented and tapped into.

And I think that any parent that chooses this for their child has done their own research and know the "full" story as well as you do.

Two implants are great because if there is a frequency deficit with one ear it is often filled by the other and music and all around sound has a chance to be much closer to normal.

  • the shame with this is that most people aren't told that people with cochlear implants don't actually "hear" sound. The entire cochlea is destroyed to have the implant. Some people end up taking them out later anyway from what I am told. I know it's a personal experience, but I think it's a shame that people don't know the full story. And to force children to go through that invasive surgery is horrible.

  • im soo glad i found his video. my son got his 1st "listening" @ 2yrs 4 months. he is now 9 and scheduled to go bilateral the end of the month. im soo nervous & hoping im doing the right thing for him. the girl in the video is AWESOME!! speaks very well & gives me lots of hope. THANK YOU FOR SHARING!!

  • @imonthelookout, if you are not doing it already I would recommend your child do some aural rehab and speech pathology and they would give you some good answers and techniques to help him catch up with his peers.

  • Awesome speech !

  • Very sweet! My 4 year old son was implanted about 3 months ago...but he is still not saying much...how long will it usually take?

  • I would like to get a cochlear implant so that I can have an opportunity to hear high-pitched sounds that I cannot hear. I need to know what kind of tools you need to do this. I prefer to do it without anesthesia.
