Home movies from 1961-1963 of Ft. Wainwright, Alaska and Fairbanks, Alaska. Very old and flickers, yet shows what Ft. Wainwright housing area looked like, shows downtown Fairbanks, and the Discovery River Boat briefly. Also shows Lathrop High School class change

  • This has been atrip back though time for me. even if for just 2,5 minutes.I was stationed at Bassett Army Hosp. from 1965 - 67. I spent alot of nights inthat theater, just across from the hospital. i also remember the riverboat sitting on the Chena River. in downtown Fairbanks. Your choice of music is great. Thankyou so much.

  • Hey!! Many thanks for your comments. I plan to transfer in better quality, soon, more footage of the Ft. Wainwright...

  • Neat to see old views of Fairbanks. Bassett was torn down 2007, and 1/2 the bulidings on 2nd street, but Fairbanks still looks very much the same.

  • Thanks for the positive comment! What about the 1960s enlisted men and dependent spouse and children housing across from the Bassett Hospital. They are close to the post theatre and a church and across the street from the Civilian housing...I use to live there in 1961-1963 as military brat?

  • An amazing video. Thank you for sharing

  • Hey! I lived there then, on 5201 Arctic Circle!

  • @puffin11b I am being stationed in FT. Wainwright in about a week. What is it like up there? Does it suck?

  • I was stationed at Ft. Wainwright from 2004-2007. It's interesting to see how it all was in the 60's.

  • Sadly, the post theatre in the video was torn down a few years ago, too. Even in the age of (back then) VCRs, it was a great nearby place for the single soldier to go to get out of the barracks. I was stationed at Wainwright in mid-80s, and again in the mid-2000s. A whole lot was changed by the time I returned. The enlised quarters shown were renovated to make two houses into one larger one (a good move).

Filmmakertom, you might not recognize it anymore.

  • Let me try this again my first comment did not show up.

  • What a wonderful trip through the past.Even If only for 2.5 minutes. I was stationed at Bassett Hosp. 1965-67. I sent quite a few nights in that movie theater, just across from the hospital. Even the boat sitting on the Chena. And your choice of music made it complete. Thankyou so much.
