An army of tourists storming a shopping mall using Gareth Edwards' poor man's massive techique. The original helicopter shot and the 13 tourists (yes only 13...) provided by fxphd visual effects training. Made with After Effects (but I ain't do that mistake again...), 3DS Max (original 3D Mall modell from Flipper42 - Turbosquid), and PFtrack for 3D tracking.

  • The landscape is a helicopter shot, and the whole comp was done inside AE. If I'd do it again though, I'd use 3DS Max's particle system to drive the "tourists", not AE's 3D space. That was the mistake; having to fake everything in AE.

  • wow! well done...much better than mine..I wanna try this again!

  • Boujou was used too?

  • That's a great replication of Gareth's effect. Is the background completely projection mapped?

  • Very nicely done. Did you render the landscape in Max? What partn did you handle with After FX and why did you say it was a mistake? Which software do you think would have been better in its place? Thanks for posting.
