Built in 1958, and delivered to Eastern Air Lines, during January 1958. In service for only 5 years, before it was sold to the Nomads Flying Club. It was their first airplane. After only 5 years, it was re-sold. Mostly parked for 32 years, before being ferried from dowtown Minneapolis airport in September, of 2004. After a lengthy and thorough restoration, it is almost ready to return to the skies.

  • Mixture...

  • That's one way of getting the ice off the wings....

  • Wow! Looks like their burning nitromethane!

  • The 2 who dislike this video should be chopped into the propellers!!!

  • @mistermellow001 yeah, i know nothing about aircraft but I think if the aircraft is flying with cold air striking the wing, it would fine, but just out on the tarmac, perhaps it isn't so good. But I don't know

  • Someone commented a year ago that they felt the exhaust flames might not be good for the wing skin, but his comment was flagged as spam, which I thought odd, and a little bit rude of whoever flagged it. It seemed like a reasonable question/observation. Obviously, the leading edge of the wing can withstand the heat, but it did surprise me to see the exhaust flame kind of "blow torching" the wing like that.

  • Seems I remember seeing this occur a few times back in my youth on the Martin 404s of Southern Airways @ the old airport in Huntsville,AL;It would scare me when I'd hear that bang and subsequent flame spurts;Knowing what I do now,I realize that was normal on starting and warm-up;After all,she can't sing until she clears her throat first:)! Ahh,happy memories from my youth; Thanks for sharing:)!

  • WHOO that's what I call a hot rod airplane!

  • I remember reading about this plane in Air Classics: at the time, it had just been bought, endured a couple engine changes, received a new rudder and was preparing for new paint. Nice to see she's come around full-turn!

  • Wow those old plane so nice :D
