    Excellent debate.

Imo the only realistic way to mitigate the effects of the coming oil shock is to use much less of the stuff.

Ramping up domestic oil production here in the US will:

1 - prolong our unsustainable living arrangements and keep us in a wasteful mindset a while longer.

2 - accelerate the depletion of our precious resource.

    3 - increase CO2 in the atmosphere / increase eco-disasters.

4 - keep the party going for a short while at the expense of a long term, more stable energy future.

The former president of Shell slams "special interests influencing Congress" but neglects to mention that the oil, coal and gas companies are the major lobbyists and campaign funders along with the banks. He claims that offshore lands and federal lands could grow US oil, but he fails to disclose the facts he knows-- it is a teaspoon compared to the 20-24 million barrels a day of USA oil demand. Patzek gives us the truth: This is just like Iraq 2004. We're in deep trouble without a Plan B.

Good point, it is time to stop burning oil.

It is wasting a great construction material, and hurting nature.

We have now to develop clean energies.

The way to do it fast is explained in a book called ~>The Present<~ that you can read on truthcontest (com)

Check it out (skip to page 53 to read about clean energies, after you're done with the 1st three pages), everyone must see it.

Is it a fact (@21:04) that U.S. has $1,000,000,000,000 barrels of proven oil reserve below Utah, Wyoming & Colorado ? (sounded like "Peons Basin" but I don't know spelling).

Americans are the problem all of them expecting it to be there given right to have a car waht consumes double of what any european country standard car does. I have to use a bike to go to work, no buses, most americans say well you guys in europe have better public transport, but maybe i want a car like you. But we have to pay 60% on tax on top of what we pay already. You all moan about 3/4dollars a barrel try paying 14/15. if we could pay your price it would be a field day, wake up you morons.
