Greater Altoona Career (Practical Nursing) - Altoona PA

The mission of the Greater Altoona Career and Technology Continuing Education Office is to provide occupational specific education to adults in collaboration with business, labor, and community in preparation for the demands of the 21st Century.

The Continuing Education Office further believes that vocational technical education should be an integral part of lifelong education with a dual purpose: (a) to provide individuals with the skills and knowledge needed to enter employment or to pursue further education; and (b) to assist in the economic development of the area by providing business and industry with productive, adaptable, and competent workers.

The Practical Nursing Program is a comprehensive, one year educational program that prepares graduates for employment as Licensed Practical Nurses in a wide variety of health-care settings. There is a two-year part-time program currently in operation.

The full-time program, which operates from August to August, encompasses classroom and clinical instruction in all phases of direct patient care, including dispensing medications and IV Therapy. At the program's completion, graduates are equipped to take the National Exam for Licensure. The Greater Altoona Career & Technology Center's Practical Nursing Program currently has a 94% to 100% pass rate on this exam.
