  • No amber alert! We just had a 7-year-old go missing later found dead in a landfill. There should be an amber alert because she's missing!

  • That's outrageous. A 9 year old missing without a trace IS OF ITSELF a sign that something has gone terribly wrong.

Money can be thrown at every bull shit war and invasion of privacy, yet they get stingy about mounting searches for missing children?

  • well they were clear about what they were trying to do, but didn't mention they tried to call it. hmm but you might be right.

the cell phone died pretty quick for one that wasn't being used. that means either the mother calling the phone killed the battery... or the killer was using the phone.

if they pull the phone calls on that phone it might reveal something.

  • Yes I think it qualifies as a good example too.

i still think PREVENTION is the key.

I would know where my daughter was

headed or going, we just do that here.

if my girl was missing (she is now 14) I would track her myself, I set t his stuff up with her every day with her schedule so she is never walking alone.

if she wants to keep her cell phone, then she keeps mom posted.

I took a job most people would not like, I clean houses, just so i can be there for her

    before AND after school

  • I should have been more specific. I agree, there have to be qualifications.

One problem I perceive, is that there is something of a "one-size-fits-all" approach to how amber alerts are applied. Currently, it seems that short of someone witnessing the child being kidnapped, a crucial amount of time must elapse before something can be done.

Disappearances can qualify as "suspicious" short of witnessing a kidnapping. Given the details, this case certainly qualifies as a good example.

  • agree with you Kosmic, but there does have to be regulations on the system or it would not work. if an amber alert was called in for every child coming home late it would not work.

Kids do go to other kids houses and forget about time, they also explore and lose track of time.

they also get abducted and murdered, though its rare.

    so sad.

I know I would want the amber alert issued for my child if she was late, but i also do understand certain criteria must be met first to keep it affective.

  • just curious Gemini, how do you know they didn't try to call?

I'm sure her mother had been dialing and dialing and dialing, don';t you think?

  • I agree with you d3v07, if everyone that called in about a missing child got an amber alert, then the system would not work.

I know if my child was 2 hours late and it was dark i would want the amber alert issued. what parent wouuld not?

but that would not work realistically.

its an "emotional" topic, but YOU are correct.

The best solution as always is PREVENTION

  • first a 7 year old girl went missing earlier this week, and now this.....wtf is wrong with ppl these days....

  • omg...no amber alert?? I understand guidelines and such that needs to be followed but if my granddaughter was told to be home at a certain time, didn't show up and after I check to see why not and she isn't where she is suppose to be then I would be having this called in and expect it to be an amber alert. There is something wrong about this.

  • Sad

  • There are thousands of kids that go missing every day. Those "QUALIFICATIONS" are kept in place so that the entire system doesn't turn into a big spam peice of shit.
