Videos are provided as a guide only. Refer to manufacturer
installation instructions and specs for complete information.
The first step involved is opening the tailgate and lowering the spare tire. There are two factory bolts on each side that have to be removed this one comes out, and this one comes out. Leave this one in its place. You don't have to touch that one. The other attachment point will be this hole here. This is identical on both sides. The truck's prepared, now we can install our hitch up on the frame. Temporarily install it by a couple of bolts to hold it in place, then we can work our other bolts in. Just so you know we used two bolts which we'll come back to later to install the spacers that go behind the hitch and the frame. With your temporary bolts in position you can put the hitch up where it's supposed to go and we still have plenty of movement to go around. Going back to the first bolt we put in, we take that out and there's a washer that goes between the hitch and the frame.

  • I am about to buy a 2010 Xterra. Thanks for the video. Is the necessary wiring already set up in the Xterra, or is this an additional part of the hitch modification?

  • The wiring needed depends on whether the Xterra has a tow package. Go to our site and put in your year, make and model, then choose custom wiring. You'll see 2 options, 119176KIT & 118399. 119176KIT is needed if you don't have the tow package. If you can find a connector like the one in 118399 under the vehicle on the drivers side behind the bumper, test all the pins for function, especially running lights. If you have the 4 main light functions, you have the tow package and need part 118399.

  • there is no drilling involve ??

  • @Arielmoses No drilling is required to install this hitch, or any of the hitches we offer for the Xterra. They are custom fit to you vehicle and designed to attach to existing holes in your vehicle frame.

  • Great Video. Thanks for showing. If you can add more of those. :)

  • We are glad you found the video helpful. We have a ton of installation videos posted on our site. Go to etrailer and click on the "Customer Service" tab in the top right corner. All our videos are posted there.
