Our newest friend and pass time in the evenings has turned into Iggy the Raccoon coming back nightly for something to eat. It seems in him doing so he has left our trash cans alone. He has become more trusting as you will see and has now taken food from our hands. This is a wild animal. Not all wild animals are going to act like this. Never try to pet or feed a wild animal. If you coose to try this you do so at your own risk.

  • I used to be able to do this with a squirrel at the public library after school. every day at lunch I'd get some corn chips, an apple, and a plastic knife (to cut the apple, not the squirrel) and feed it. that thing was so fat, I don't know if it was just from me and other people feeding it, or if it was pregnant and hungry, but it would come right up to me and eat out of my palm.

  • Funny how trusting an animal can get! Just goes to show they can see the good in people and can trust some of us like this!

  • he got taken away

  • yeah... but it was for his own safety, threats were made by people in the area to shoot him. I could not see that happening so we made a few calls to see what could be done..

  • a okay if its for his own saftey then is okay do you now the where abouts he is ?

  • he is in the NC State Zoo and we have payed him many visits since and we are even allowed in the back and he comes running to us. I think we made a friend for life in him!

  • that is so cool, would be an interesting pet

  • look at him thought hes so sweet man look at him put the food in his mouth

  • Thanks Lanny. He is a a juvenile, a very trusting one at that. We all thought this could pose a problem and wanted no one to get hurt so we had him live trapped and then he was taken to the NC Zoo. It was kind of emotional that day for myself and the family to see him taken from us but it is for the safety of not just my family but others in my area.

  • Apparently the raccoon is a good judge of character.

Is it a juvenile? looks smaller than an adult in the video.
