@calistofox Soul Avangerz - Love You Feel / it is really a wonderful cover... but so underrated
-
@MarqueeTee I totally agree, she is a real Diva!

@gtancer Music was changing as it does every 5 years. The albums are so close, both should have toured together in promo spots support each other. But, MJ launching a huge solo career, and internal problems with Rufus and record labels, etc....My first all time Rufus album is ask Rufus, 2nd is Masterjam :-)
-
@gtancer Masterjam, not their best commercially, but it's a very clean production and typical of Q. I like it, a sort of different sound for Rufus, but moving into another era (unfortunately inner band personality issues). Off The Wall and Masterjam are very identical in Q's production, very clean and tight. But for radio, etc at the time, maybe singers were on top vs bands/groups.

@garyda1 well, no she doesn't dance, SHE JAMS & GROOVES, let's the music take her to wherever. Those who tend to dance and be choreography completely lack in vocal power, especially LIVE!
-
@betteberry...I stand corrected on the date of release, thank you for the correction. I just think to say Quincy carried over the sound from Off the Wall the Masterjam is a stretch given songs like "Ben" "Got To Be There" "Rockin Robin" and Dancin Machine have NOTHING to do with the funk and soul of "Any Love" "Masterjam" "Do You Love What You Feel" and "Live In Me" . Off the Wall is pure R&B Pop, Rufus was straight up RB&B FUNK !!!!! But your right we can all draw our own conclusions.......
-
@Seashelldiver Masterjam actually released Nov of 1979. So that is the true date of release of the album. We can all draw our own conclusions as to who influenced what.

I absolutely love Chaka Khan, too bad she couldn't dance though!

This dat jam right here!

Of course...I DO think that this particular song does feature one of Chaka's best INDIVIDUAL performances ever captured on record. It's a bit "disco-ey", but Quincy Jones aural sheen is all over this one. This one of those songs where if you listen through a good pair of headphones with surround sound option turned on you can actually hear the music sparkling.
Mr.Bertiep.....Quicey didn't carry over The Off The Wall Sound to the Masterjam album for Rufus, as Masterjam (With Any Love) was released in Aug 1978 and Off The Wall was released in Nov. 1979. Just and FYI from an true old schooler who was there thru all the 70's going to these concerts.

@Seashelldiver MASTERJAM was released November 30, 1978 . OFF THE WALL was released August 10, 1979 . However it was recorded December 1978–June 1979.

Quincy was responsible for producing some great music but his efforts with Rufus just didn't do the group justice. After the band had contributed so much to MJ's "Off the Wall" record, Quincy carried over that sound to this record. Rufus was always better when they had that edge to there sound. There's no BAD Rufus I just don't think this record was true to their sound.

@MrBertiep MASTERJAM is one of RUFUS/CHAKA KHAN's BEST EFFORTS as a group ! The only down side if there is one are the 2 songs TONY MAIDEN sings WALK THE ROCKWAY & I'M DANCING FOR YOUR LOVE ! Their sound was allways about HER VOICE !

Wow, great seeing the original. DJ Meme's cover is a great re-working though. I mean really great, makes the original sound almost a bit empty.
