  • Its unfair to say that about Mcrae. The circumstanses of the two rallies were completely different, Mcrae and makinen were competeing, Mcrae had a 14 minute lead in 99 and backed off, makinen had a choice he could have gone for it and tried to catch Mcrae or sensible back off as he did. while in 02 makinen had a problem and mcrae was literally right behind him. I dont think Makinen dun it on purpose, I think it was Subaru team management.

  • You just have to hear, they say in the video that it was radio...in 1999,Makinen was so faster than McRae,that he closed from 14 minutes to 8 and he could have more,if he was not blocked by Colin...

  • I'd say it was very good sportmansship Of Tommi to apologize to Colin after. Awesome Video.

  • I agree...and it took Malcolm by suprise I thik :-)

  • verry good tommi :D

  • *Rally D:

  • @elzapatita Yes you are absolutely right! And that stupid argument of Richards that he didnt want them to crash was stupid...Colin won, carlos was 2nd,so he got maximum points anyway...but I think that Sainz maybe wanted it...

I remember Portugese GP 1995,when Jean Alesi was told to let Gerhard Berger pass, but he did not. He was fined by Ferrari, but than it was taken back by Todt, because Berger said,he respects Alesi not to let him because that is racing..Sainz should have said it too

  • @AlejjSi you're right, anyway f**k team's orders, Colin wanted to win, he was a winner, a taker, not a giver, he wasn't going to give fatass sainz a chance, why he had to follow stupid orders just to let another one win??

@die996 i'm sorry but you know shit about rallies, go to sleep, your mom is calling you.

  • @die996 McRae havent won a championschip in 1997,Makinen is 1997 Champion...what you are talking about happened at 1995 RACC Catalunya Rally, where indeed McRae won....but in the end,McRae was forced by Dave Richards to take apenalty,so the winner was Sainz

  • agree with you compleatly you can tell he feels embarrised by the situation too

  • Somewhat my comment didnt appear,so I write it again - watch the video to the end and you see Makinen slowed by dust of Colin

  • I second your comment and would also like to add that in 2002 it was even more difficult to drive behind another car i was thereon that stage and saw both choppers but only tommi's car even though colini was right behind him i couldnt see the car go past because of the thick dust.

Plus colin also had a broken windscreen which would have made it even more tricky for him to drive in those conditions

  • What is your point here?

1999 - The commentator says that Tommi got "within 8 minutes of Colin". This is not a case of Colin not pulling over to let Tommi past. Compare this with 2002 Colin was right behing a damaged Makinnen who never moved over. He then apologised to Colin saying he never received word from Subaru. Then Colin said if there was no word then there was no problem.

1999 Safari Colin built up a huge lead and was entitled to take his foot off the gas to secure victory.
