At 44-years-old and with a 6-year-old daughter, Tim needed a definitive cure for his prostate cancer. After researching his treatment options and talking with a family members, he chose to have his prostate removed though robotic surgery with Dr. Naveen Kella at Urology San Antonio. Tim understood the potential for side effects such as erectile dysfunction and incontinence but says, "When you're talking about the difference between life and a firm erection, I chose life." Tim had not been a hospital patient since he was a very young child so he was somewhat nervous about the operation. Thankfully, procedure went smoothly and he was released from the hospital the next day. When his catheter was removed at an office visit one week later, Tim, who had been faithful to do his Kegel exercises, regained normal urinary control the same day. Unlike his father who had open surgery for prostate cancer in the late 1990s, Tim has only a 1.5 inch incision and a much faster recovery. Today, at his annual follow-up visits, Tim is pleased to receive '0's on his PSA score. He makes his story available to help others facing prostate cancer, particularly younger men like himself.
