Thais call this "Horse Pee Egg". As the story goes, originally a batch of these fermented eggs were found in a horse stable, peed on and who knows what else. Apparently someone then decided to eat one - and proclaimed it - Delicious!

This was so gross it might be the final installment of the Gross Grub Bizarre Foods Series. I've been beaten for sure with this one. This ranks as the most disgusting thing I've ever had in my mouth. Pink egg is actually an unfertilized egg that has sat in a box of dirt for about 30 days - and then in our house for another 2 weeks. It has gelled. Well, mostly gelled. It's uncooked. It's disgusting beyond anything I can imagine. The smell is horrific. The taste - equally as sick. It's disgusting beyond belief, and I won't let my wife ever eat it in the house again. Never.

  • Perhaps you have a well, but if you are on municipal water, it is illegal. When the pressure drops you steal water from your neighbors, but I would never turn you in. If you like boats see my longtail site or my channel, cheers, Sean ...

  • @walkertongdee as I said, your gripe wouldn't be with me - so I don't care - we rent.

  • @walkertongdee I now see you dont care about your neighbors, not my concern.Cheers!

  • @walkertongdee lol, wrong... I care about my neighbors - we have some good ones. We've not used the pump - we always have water stored in the house.

  • hey thats an leagal pump in the house. ha,ha...

  • @walkertongdee do you mean "illegal?" No idea what you're talking about, but, if you think it's illegal for some reason you should file a complaint against the owner of the house - he's a Thai judge. lol. Good luck to you... hahahha.

  • Good I am wrong, so much over small post. cheers. Sean.

  • Awww, your daughter cried... I think it's mostly a mental hurdle for us; fermented foods aren't really a big part of northern European food culture but in a tropical climate, you need to control decomposition to preserve food! Yours look less processed than the Chinese ones, which are solid to the center. But they're not usually eaten out of hand, they're more of a side or ingredient. Scrambled with eggs, or in congee etc. I have to admit balut would be a major hurdle for me...

  • preserving duck, chicken or quail eggs in a mixture of clay, ash, salt, lime, and rice hulls for several weeks to several months... personally we eat it with porridge :)
