Jürgen Habermas, one of the last great living philosophers, recently celebrated his eightieth birthday. During the last decade he has presented himself as a sharp analyst of the world order after 9/11. The Divided West, especially compiled for the Netherlands, presents a selection of his most recent work. This book was presented on 8 November 2009.
In his recent work he focuses on what he calls the post-secular' and post-national' society. According to Habermas, we see both an increasing presence of religion in our democracy and an increasing pressure on the nation state from ongoing globalisation. Habermas answers the many questions that are raised by these developments in an incisive and individual way.
After the lecture Jürgen Habermas answered five questions put by, among others, Paul Scheffer (Professor of Urban Geography, University of Amsterdam).
I like it.
