http://TheArtofWoodType.com - The Art Of WoodType By Greg Ruffa: One of the most comprehensive books on wood type published. By Greg Ruffa

"The Art of WoodType", is the most comprehensive book written on the subject in 50 years. Recalling the history of the alphabet evolving into our present language and on through the years of typography. A 330 page revelation of the typographic evolution dating from the 1300 Chinese wood blocks to the explosion of wood type in the 1800s.
Although many details relevant to the design and manufacture of wood type are shown, are the wonderful works of the craftsmen that developed the craft into an art form. The book has 220 pages of type fonts shown in photographs from the actual wood and their "proofs." The book attempts to invoke an appreciation of these marvels of typography. The works of nine artists, printing professors, and collectors reveal their humorous and revealing experiences in creating their fascinating work. Two significant type publications are reviewed, U&lc and Westvaco, with pages excepted from their entertaining, humor and typographic stylish designs. Both ceased printing several years ago.
The Art of WoodType was conceptually developed to preserve the lost art of wood type, but it grew into a resource for artists, graphic designers, printers, students and teachers. It was a four year adventure of research, writing, photography and lettering each character of every font. The author/designer, Gregory Ruffa has self-published the art quality book, is only available online for $50 plus shipping $5 USA, costs vary by country for international sales at www.theartofwoodtype.com or directly by email: grapublish@aol.com.
