but honestly, most of the stuff iv heard from Africans in America aba akata people or African Americans are 99.99% percent Negative... so definintely some are bound to use the name in a derogatory way even though the real meaning of the word isn derogatory.

Akata doesn mean nigger...i live in the UK but iv got family in the US and theyv always referred to African Americans as akata so I asked them once where the word came from and they said its a Yoruba word for an African American and not a 'nigger'.some people deliberately use it in a derogatory way just to annoy someone who doesn really know wat the term means.

If you go to the websters new world dictionary and search akata, it says derived from the Yoruba people of West Africa and it simply means 'fox'. Hope this helps.

maybe if you ask about the derogatory term kafer or cafer that is used in south africa to describe blacks back in apartheid and even now, then that is the term that is equivalent with the derogatory term of nigger in America but Akata means something else. akata and Nigger are not equivalent words or mean the same thing. My family and me use the word as it's original meaning and have no problem with it

please bring a part two because akata is a Yoruba word not a igbo one and it doesn't mean nigger, so where you felt that saying akata vs. nigger which is worse? in your title is funny because akata is not a bad word and nigger is a bad word that was created in America, and solely relevant in american history. Akata is term used to describe and identify african Americans, any other definition is false. the people that say it differently are idiots and are humiliating themselves.

@NEOSHABABI Your welcome, honestly this why there is a split between the ethnicity in Nigeria. Ibo can think what they want, but they aren't the best , they wanted to separate from Nigeria. Look up Biafra war, or it was something like that. Either way your suppose to love your people no matter what, the only difference between all of them is language. At the end of the day they are still Nigerian. Educate yourself by reading the history of Nigeria. And not on no wikipedia
