Kecskés

i have tried to learn Kecskes from the first CD of Besh o droM. this is the results. if you like the tune make sure to look for the original (the album is called Macho Embroidery). Actually, look for it regardless whether you like this video or not :)

(The melody comes from a hungarian folk-song i believe. And the title means literally "goat-like" which might allude to the jumpy rhythm. But that's pure speculation. :)

szia! koszi a kommentet! a hangszer egy bolgar kaval - ami nem igazan hasonlit a csango es roman kavalokra, mivel nincs sipja vagy egyeb fuvokaja, inkabb a fuvola-felekhez hasonlit. a torok es egyiptomi ney-jel van kozelebbi rokonsagban.

what instrument do you play ? it's got more than 7 holes !!! I play recorders and I can say you definetly got speed on that one ;) !

hey eldrian! thanks for the comment! :) The instrument is a (home-made) Bulgarian kaval. it has 7 top holes and a thumb-hole. In addition to these there are 3 tuning-holes at the bottom end of the tube (but you never have to cover those :) It is similar to Turkish and Egyptian neys. I find that it lends itself very well to play many different folk-musics from Hungarian to Romanian, from Greek to Turkish (and Bulgarian and Macedonian).

"Kecskés" (Goat dance) is/was a kind of ritual dance in Moldva at NewYear's Day. There are masquerades in the Hungarian & Rumanian folklore, like this (with goats) in Transylvania too.

A "kecskés" Moldvában tudtommal az újévi uráláshoz/hejgetéshez kapcsolódó dramatikus/rituális táncféle. Ismertek hasonló "Kecsketáncok" Erdélyből a farsang/fonók/guzsalyasok idejéről is ("Maszkurás").

A festeres dallamot ejsze kapásból csak "segerczferi"-től tudnám mutatni a neten... :)
