JAN KIEPURA Sings KORNGOLD

Rare 1936 recording of the great Jan Kiepura singing 'Sweet Melody of Night' from the film GIVE US THIS NIGHT. Music by Erich Wolfgang Korngold, Lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II. Photos taken 'on set' during the making of this rarely seen movie are from my private collection. This recording was only issued in the USA. Kiepura made a different (and in my opinion, inferior) version for the Odeon label in Europe that also appeared on parlophone and later Decca) in the UK. This particular recording is, in my opinion, Kiepura's finest commercial disc and possibly the only one to effectively capture his unique qualities as a singer.
