http://www.theanimeblog.com - Takoyaki is a popular Japanese street food from Osaka. These little treats are fried octopus balls and are a must try for any fan of Japanese food or of unique foodstuffs.

I'm going to show you how to make takoyaki in either a cast iron takoyaki pan or in a muffin tin so all the folks out there who don't have a takoyaki pan can still make takoyaki at home!

I'll also tell you where you can get the ingredients and what you can substitute for some hard to find Japanese ingredients. Let's make takoyaki!

  • @kayu38 Thanks!

  • gbdehcbsdc - um, it's a gas oven, which is much better than an electric one.

  • can i use a smaller muffin tin? i have one that has smaller cups in it.

  • WannabeManga - i think a muffin tin would work, but i'm not entirely certain. good luck!

  • @kevinwsitu nvm im blind...

  • May I ask what is under the takoyaki plate? Is it a hot plate?

  • in my place, the seller also put either eel, sausage+cheese or something else to those who dont eat octopus :D so those who can't find octopus can switch to something else :D :D

  • if you live in a place like me with no asian store, you may be lucky to findoctopus but if not you can sub it with sasage cheese or shrimp and since i order online i could get teh dashi soup from amazon but my exchange student friend from japan told me you can sub dashi soup with water... you can also instead of onions use cabage

  • The octopus is grey...why?

  • Found the pan at big lots for $9!!!!

  • That looks just like an ebleskiver pan, a Danish pancake ball pan. You can probably get those at departments stores. I don't know if they will work the same way though.

  • I have no problem finding takoyaki pans (if you're looking for one, go to ebay or amazon), but please do inform me if you know where I can find a obanyaki pan/grill. Thanks! ~_^

  • I have no problem finding a takoyaki pan (ebay, amazon, etc), but please do inform me if you know where I can get an actual obanyaki grill/pan instead of substituting with a muffin pan (although the shape is a lot closer). ~_^
