This may come as a shock to you, but the 800m free isn't a short distance. As it happens Thorpe held that world record before the 2005 champs. Just something for you to consider before you say that Thorpe only swims 'short distances'.

you really dont know much abour swimming i can see ? Ian's best distance is/was 400 free soo it's ok if you think that is short....but i dont think so xD

Ha! Phelps beat the pompous Ian Thorpe! Good! Hope that shut up all the stupid Aussies who thinks Ian's shit don't stink! I'm tired of all the 'Thorpedo is better than Phelps' talk! Thorpe is good in the relays and short distances, Michael swims ALL strokes and kicks ass in the 200m and 400m! Go Phelps!
