@Zebra21267 No, they never made the South Pole- their ships was caught in the ice, crushed, and they survived in small boats until making Elephant island. Shackleton and some men said a small boat 800 miles across the worst ocean, to South Georgia. After climbing over mountains to reach the other sie, he managed later to rescue all his men.
he died a few years later, on another expediition, and is buried on south Georgia.
Thanks for this- well done tribute to men of steel, in the great era of polar exploration.
