Thirty-four years ago, that fateful day—April 30, 1975—marks the beginning of the largest human exodus in Vietnams history during which millions of Vietnamese, from the youngest to the oldest and by any means possible, have left their motherland behind and tried to flee the brutal, repressive Communist regime. Many tragically perished either in the depths of ocean or on land in their desperate search for FREEDOM.
Today, we—the next generation of Vietnamese immigrants either growing up or born in our second adopted homeland—stand proud of our rich heritage and culture and proud of our Vietnamese Freedom Flag. We will never forget the real reason why our grandparents, our parents and our Vietnamese communities across the United States and in all the free nations of the world came to exist in the first place. And we finally understand the precious freedom and the many untold sacrifices made by our parent generation in order to protect and defend the very freedom that we now enjoy.
