Search Engine Optimization and Search-Friendly Web Design

Part 1: Organic Search Engine Optimization Beyond The 10 Blue Lines

Organic search optimization (SEO) has moved beyond getting ranked within 10 blue links on the first search results page and has become increasingly complex. Both Google and Bing have confirmed they factor social signals into their ranking algorithms for "regular" search results. Your social online identity, authority and who you talk to online are defining a social signal that is currently being used by search engines in the ranking algorithm. Successful SEO now requires special efforts to get optimum visibility in place search, social search, real-time search, universal search and local search.

This presentation will cover search engine optimization basics and the key issues web developers need to address when building search engine-friendly sites that are attractive to both search engines and human visitors at the same time. It also digs deeper into what it takes to run a successful SEO program today. The presentation provides tips on how to optimize for local and place search, real-time search, universal search and help you understand the role "social signals", primarily from Twitter and Facebook, play into the ranking algorithms of "regular" search results at Google and Bing. The need for feeding the search engines with freshly updated content will also be discussed.
