THE DR LYN CLERIHAN AWARD 2011 WAS AWARDED TO DR TONY BAKARE - World Organization of National Colleges and Acedemics (WONCA) of Family Physicians - The WONCA ASIAPAICIFIC AND RURAL, Cebu, Phillipines, 20th to 24th February 2011 awarded the 2011 "Dr Lyn Clerihan's award for the best publication and most downloaded of the year on Asiapacific Family Medicine Journal (APFMJ) - to Dr Tony Bakare and A/Prof Peter Schattner for the article on the `Ùsefullness of a Clinical `Scorecard` In Managing Patients with Sore Throat in General Practice` published at http://www.apfmj.com/content/9/1/9
Dr Tony Bakare recieved the award with an inspirational speech on 21st February 2011 and paid a tribute to rural and remote medicine and to Cobar, New South Wales, Australia where he worked and did his research. He encourages doctors wherever they may be, even in the most rural and remote part of the world to carry out medical research and help shape and develop medicine further. The essence and inspirations for new medical researches are in the doctors` daily practices and experiences with patients and not necessarily in superb locations and super-modern technologies. Working in rural and remote locations inspires alot of ideas that we often ignore or look down upon! It is important that doctors in these areas tell us what they have been through or are going through in the language of quality international medical researches!
Recipient of the award: Dr Tony Bakare MD, MFM (Monash), B.MIN, FRACGP, FACRRM, PhD candidate by Publications.
Principal author and investigator: Dr Tony Bakare and Co-author - A/Prof Peter Schattner
