I uploaded this video by request from users on the www.ModelMayhem.com community to show how to do a frequency separation on an image in this sample I show a brief display on how it can be used to smooth skin or remove blemishes but this technique can be used for multiple things, such as contrast, sharpening, adding texture etc.

I want to repeat that the Image I'm working on is 8 bit if you want to use this technique on a 16 bit image the settings will be different on the apply image box but the steps will remain the same.

I hope you enjoy it. :)

  • If I was going to dodge and burn, would I put those layers above the highpass layer or below it?

  • @Aydensgrace

I would put those layers in between the low and the high.

  • whats the best way to set up a dodge/burn layer after separation?

  • @ritagberry

I used to curves adjustment layers one curved up and one curved down, curve down set to darken and the curve up one set to lighten.

  • I added a link for the settings on the info bar

I'm foreign and you just showed what a ridiculous person you are if that's all you got from this video. You are a little too angry over a pronunciation pathetic. Please step away from the computer and get a life.

  • At what point do you merge all the high and low and original layers?

  • fairly vauge in your explaining, just saying about ten pixels for the blur doesnt teach anybody anything, understanding the radius is everything with this technique and you totally overlooked it.
